How cylinders are sized

Cylinders are described by their water capacity in litres (the physical size) and the gas content they hold at full pressure. Common industrial sizes are around 10L, 20L, 40L and 47L water capacity. A standard 47L oxygen cylinder at ~150 bar holds roughly 7 cubic metres of gas.

Common formats

• Cylinders — the standard portable option (10L–47L) for workshops and site use.
• Dura Tanks — larger, higher-capacity vessels for continuous or high-volume use.
• Bulk supply — for factories and plants with pipeline distribution.

Colour coding (India)

• Oxygen — black body, white shoulder
• Nitrogen — grey shoulder
• Argon — dark green shoulder
• CO₂ — grey (varies)
• Acetylene — maroon

How to choose
